Interview with Kevin Cardona
In January, BNP Paribas Real Estate took part in the CES 2016 fair in Las Vegas (the largest global event for new technologies and innovation) in partnership with La Poste and its digital hub. What is the point of the Internet of services and things ?Kevin Cardona :
In 2020, there will be 50 billion connected objects in the world. This trend concerns the business world and of course the real estate sector with its smart homes, smart buildings and more generally smart cities. The services and value creation possibilities around these three subjects are becoming an essential part of our strategy.
It is now possible to connect personal user data to open data and offer innovative services.
Concerning smart buildings, the boom of connected objects used in offices or warehouses is an opportunity for companies and has an impact on the well-being of staff, productivity, buildings’ performance and energy efficiency, and therefore on cost controls. In the area of smart homes, the challenge is to develop homes that include, from the drawing board stage, the services of connected objects meant to simplify the daily life of their occupants.
The Internet of things (IoT) will significantly improve security, comfort and the control of domestic energy consumption.

While these new services will soon be essential for our daily lives, personal date protection is becoming a priority for the future. Thanks to the digital hub developed by our partner La Poste, it is now possible to connect personal user data to open data and offer innovative services while guaranteeing their security and durability.
In the future, the Internet of things will become an endless source of information to immediately understand the daily habits of office and home occupiers. As a leading player in the commercial and residential real estate sector, BNP Paribas Real Estate must seize this value-creating opportunity. We thus plan to set up a «Living Lab» in our head office this year, to test on ourselves these innovative services before offering them to our clients.
Simultaneously, we are setting up and federating an ecosystem of innovations with start-ups that want to grow rapidly, but also with large strategic partners, to be able to offer our corporate and private individual clients increasingly innovative real estate solutions.
